Neotame is a no-calorie sweetener, which is a derivative of the dipeptide composed of the amino acids, aspartic acid and phenylalanine. The components of neotame are joined together to form a uniquely sweet ingredient.<\/p>\n
Relative Sweetness: <\/strong>Neotame is sweeter than other marketed no-calorie sweeteners and is approximately 30-40 times sweeter than aspartame; 7,000-13,000 times sweeter than sugar. Neotame will deliver comparable sweetness to sucrose in various applications.<\/p>\n Metabolism: <\/strong>Quickly metabolized and fully eliminated by the body via normal biological processes.<\/p>\n Assets: <\/strong>Neotame has a clean, sweet taste like sucrose and unique flavor enhancement properties. At projected trace levels of use, neotame will provide a full, sweet taste in foods and beverages.<\/p>\n Limitations: <\/strong>None are identified by the manufacturer.<\/p>\n Applications: <\/strong>Has applicability in foods and beverages, including but not limited to, chewing gum, carbonated soft drinks, refrigerated and non-refrigerated ready-to-drink beverages, tabletop sweeteners, frozen desserts and novelties, puddings and fillings, yogurt-type products, baked goods and candies. It can also be used in both cooking and baking applications.<\/p>\n Safety: <\/strong>Extensive research has been conducted on neotame to establish its safety as a sweetening ingredient. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) reviewed over 100 scientific studies before approving neotame.<\/p>\n Status: <\/strong>The FDA approved the use of neotame as a general purpose sweetener in July 2002.
