{"id":17669,"date":"2020-06-04T18:26:13","date_gmt":"2020-06-04T22:26:13","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/caloriecontrol.org\/?p=17669"},"modified":"2020-12-08T16:35:36","modified_gmt":"2020-12-08T21:35:36","slug":"statement-re-sugar-associations-petition","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/caloriecontrol.org\/statement-re-sugar-associations-petition\/","title":{"rendered":"Statement on Sugar Assn&#8217;s Petition"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Calorie Control Council is conducting a thorough review of the Sugar Association\u2019s petition on June 3, 2020 to the US Food and Drug Administration regarding the labeling of low- and no- calorie sweeteners (LNCS).<span class=\"has-inline-color has-very-light-gray-color\"><\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As one of the many tools to combat obesity and diabetes, LNCS help consumers reduce added sugars, reduce calories, and assist in management of weight and blood sugar.&nbsp;Like other ingredients, LNCS are required to be included on the ingredient list of product labels of all foods and beverages, allowing consumers to determine whether a product contains a particular sweetener.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The American Academy of Pediatrics and the American Heart Association, alongside countless other health authorities, have warned against health risks of excess consumption of added sugars including childhood and adolescent obesity, dental decay, cardiovascular disease, hypertension, dyslipidemia, insulin resistance, type 2 diabetes mellitus, fatty liver disease and all-cause mortality.&nbsp;Low- and no- calorie sweeteners are a safe and effective alternative to added sugars.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>For More Information<\/em><br>Stan Samples, Communications <br><a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"mailto:ssamples@caloriecontrol.org\" target=\"_blank\">ssamples@caloriecontrol.org<\/a> <br>678-303-2996<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Calorie Control Council is conducting a thorough review of the Sugar Association\u2019s petition on June 3, 2020 to the US Food and Drug Administration regarding the labeling of low- and no- calorie sweeteners (LNCS).
